My Realistic Morning Routine as a First-Time Mom
Hey there! Welcome to the chaos and magic of my morning routine as a brand-new mom. I usually open my eyes somewhere between 7 and 8 in the morning, even though my alarm is set for 8:30. My internal clock, it seems, is a bit of an early bird. Baby Oliver, meanwhile, is still catching some Z’s. Most days, I relish this quiet stretch, a rare gem of peace to recharge and set the pace for what’s to come.
Starting the Day Right
This morning, a shower is definitely on the cards. I try let my hair take its time drying because it’s got that natural wave thing going on. A dab of styling gel and voilà, finger curls! Skipping heat helps me with the hair regrowth mission post-pregnancy. Each hair that sprouts feels like a trophy, reminding me of the wild journey our bodies tackle post-baby. It’s a nod to self-care in my everyday saga.
Oh, there goes Oliver! He usually joins the waking world between 8 and 9. We tweaked his snooze schedule so he’s out like a light from 8 or 9 at night until about 9 in the morning. Works for us night owls! Those quiet moments before he stirs are pure bliss. I often sneak in a quick meditation or savor a cup of tea while plotting out the day. Funny how these little snippets of time can steer the whole day into a positive groove.
Morning Routine with Baby
Once Oliver’s up, it’s chow time with breastfeeding. This is my window to fire off a few texts and dive into the social media whirlpool. It’s a juggling act, staying in the loop with friends and giving Oliver my full attention. After breakfast, it’s diaper duty and getting him all dressed up. Today, we’re pulling out some cozy white socks and slippers because there’s a nip in the air. And yes, the laundry pile is calling my name! Baby clothes are cute, but boy, they multiply like rabbits.
Once he’s set, we jump into playtime. Our current jam is building towers and gleefully knocking them over. He’s just nailed crawling and loves hauling himself up on furniture, which means we’re always on the move. I try to sneak in some solo playtime for him, so I can tackle a few chores. The spark in his eyes as he discovers the world is contagious. I treasure these snippets, knowing they’ll fly by in a blink. Through play, I’m picking up on patience and the joy of savoring the now.
Getting Myself Ready
Most days, the coffee table moonlights as my beauty station. Stripping down my makeup routine has been a lifesaver, focusing on the essentials that make me feel top-notch. Discovering Merit was part of this journey, and I’m chuffed they’re sponsoring today’s video. Their minimalist makeup is a skin-saver, just what I need for a quick yet effective beauty fix. My beauty mantra is now all about simplicity and efficiency, enhancing what’s already there without cramping my calendar.
For my routine, I kick off with their complexion stick, blending with my fingers for that au naturel glow. A dab of flush balm in terracotta brightens my cheeks, and a swipe of mascara makes my eyes pop. I top it off with a natural lip hue. If you’re curious to give Merit a whirl, check out my faves linked below. It’s wild how a few minutes of mindful self-care can skyrocket your confidence and gear you up to tackle the day.
Breakfast and Playtime
Post-makeup, it’s storytime with Oliver. We love flipping through books, and it’s a joy watching him dive into tales. Books open up his imagination and are our bonding bridge. Next up, breakfast. Oliver and I have been digging eggs and toast, but today it’s protein waffles with berries for him. He’s not into purees, so we’re sharing the good stuff, skipping the sugar. As a newbie mom, introducing him to new tastes and textures is a thrilling ride.
By now, it’s nearly 11, and that spells nap time. We stick to a routine to ease him into sleep. While he’s off in dreamland, I tackle a quick tidy-up around the house. A five-minute timer keeps it manageable, helping me keep our home from descending into chaos. It’s a small yet mighty trick that keeps the mess monster at bay, letting me cling to some order.
Nap Time Productivity
With Oliver snoozing, it’s my golden hour for work. As a part-timer, this is when I dive into emails and editing. It’s not just about keeping the house spic and span; it’s my productivity window. Here’s hoping for a long nap today! Balancing work and motherhood is a constant juggling act, but every productive moment feels like a massive win.
And just like that, he’s up after an hour. We’ll squeeze in a bit more playtime, maybe a stroll if the skies clear. Our walks are a breath of fresh air, a change of scenery for both of us. Afternoons are usually a rewind of our morning antics until Dad clocks out of work. It’s a comforting cycle that brings rhythm to our day.
